Things I read today 26-11-08

As usual the fear mongering and propaganda that CBC engages in is unbelievable.
Let us take this article:
Unprotected wireless systems open doors for criminals - CBC News
They have used every trick in the book. Firstly the word criminal in the title and expert in the first three words. Start you off with fear and then bring on the 'expert' opinion. The first paragraph even mentions theft of banking information.
The 'expert' says that he can just login to people's machines on wireless networks and copy financial data, pay himself money. Fear fear fear.
Then, if the fear of losing your identity (you can have mine) didn't get to you then they pull out the pornographic material (regular and child). - "lock your Internet for the children".
Information should be free, share you Internet connection. This just makes sure that the communications companies get all the sales as no one will share. It also means that there are Internet users that they cannot track, therefore they must be criminals. I used 'borrowed' Internet access when I was broke and looking for work upon returning to Canada. I thank those that leave it open. Instead, put a password on your Windows XP machine for the administrator account, run spyware and anti-virus (why did the 'expert' not mention these?). It is not the open Internet that allows criminals as they can easily break in to 'secured' wireless.
Here is a link to a video that helps to crack that wireless password. - so don't believe that you're 'safe' even with a password; if the hacker wants in, the hacker gets in.

10 arrested in Afghan schoolgirl acid attack
Last Updated: Tuesday, November 25, 2008 | 5:49 AM ET
CBC News
Ten Taliban militants have been arrested in connection with an acid attack against Afghan girls walking to school earlier this month, a provincial governor said Tuesday.
Kandahar Gov. Rahmatullah Raufi said several of the arrested militants have confessed to taking part in the acid attack, the Associated Press reported. He said high-ranking Taliban fighters paid the militants $2,000 to carry out the attack.
Some girls suffered serious face burns when two men riding motorcycles squirted them with acid from water bottles. They had been walking to school in Kandahar City.
One teenager couldn't open her eyes days after being splattered with acid.
The Nov. 12 attack sparked worldwide condemnation. None of the school's 1,500 students or teachers attended classes in the days following the attack.
Girls were banned from schools under the Taliban's hardline Islamist regime, which ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.
A Taliban spokesman had denied that Taliban militants were involved in the attack.

Read the comments, here is a jewel - "The only reason any of the socialist programs exist are because of the middle/high class, so, while people piss all over them as uncaring, they should realize that the biggest chunk of money these programs get is directly from these people.
Rich people don't exactly use a lot of the services they pay for outside of roads, garbage, and medical (and they could afford better). The poor people do.
You help the poor what you can, but you NEVER do anything for them, you merely present the opportunities for them to prosper. Socialist need to understand that."
